Our Nest Box

The Kestrel Box - an Arizona Non-Profit Corporation

Here is a picture of the outside the nest box that the camera is mounted in.  We are using an experimental design with double walls on the sides and double ceilings with air spaces between the outer and inner walls/ceiling.  The hope is to provide a slightly cooler environment for the birds.  We think it helped during 2001 as a second clutch was attempted, but since the second clutch failed we think it still got too hot.

The camera is housed in the small box in the space between the roof and the ceiling of the box.  We are using a low-light black and white video camera with no light source other than the natural light that makes it in through the opening.
